From April 4 to April 8, 2023 in the Leito Manteles Valley, buffer zone of the Llanganates National Park we have tagged with Iridium/GPS collars 4 Andean tapirs, the first one was named "David", in honor of David Wildt, mentor of our colleague and researcher Budhan Pukazhenthi, the second tapir was named "Triunfo", because it lives in the parish of El Triunfo near the city of Baños, a female tapir was named "Jordan" in honor of Dr. Jordan Davis-Powell, who has been collaborating with us for the last 4 years; The fourth tapir was a young male which we named "Dan" in honor of Dan Houck II, donor of this research and conservation project. This study would not have been possible without the support of: SEGRE Foundation, IUCN Tapir Specialist Group, INABIO, MAATE, Fundación Oso Andino, Los Angeles Zoo, Smithsonian National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute, Longneck Manor, Roosevelt Park Zoo, Highpoint Haven, Kratt Family Conservation Fund, Martinez Perez Family; Melchor Ascanta, his family and fabulous dogs. Thank you for believing in us.
